Thanksgiving On The Street
November 20 @ 8:00 am - November 24 @ 5:00 pm
We Bring Belonging Back.
One alone, overlooked person at a time.
We gather the finest foods we can, fit for kings. We work through the night, bring our food hot from the stove to the street, and give it away to people we don’t even know and may never see again.
Will you join us this year?
What We Need
Monday and Tuesday Afternoons, 11/20 and 11/21, 2:00 – 7:00pm
Get a jump start on the tedious process of prepping herbs (Doing Thyme.)
Wednesday Morning, 11/22
We need help to convert the student lounge into a prep kitchen. Cover all bistro and dining tabletops with heavy construction paper. Re-position furniture. Organize and stack raw materials in coolers and storerooms. Unload trucks. Carry inventory inside. Set up supply stations. Execute myriad other organizational tasks that make the afternoon managable and productive.
Wednesday Night, 11/22
We need a core crew to work through the night. At least every hour, we sweep and damp-mop a half-acre of floor to keep it slip’n’fall safe. Collapse crates and boxes. Bag garbage. Maintain a clean and safe workspace. Fill-in as needed to produce the awesome menu that even the resident university executive chef says is “amazing.”
Thursday Thanksgiving Dinner on the Street, 11/23
Set up, serve, and eat withour guests, just like at home. Share stories. Snitch tastes of everything that passes by. Lug hot dishes to makeshift tables. Enjoy each other’s company more than anyone ever anticipated.
Help clean up at Command Central Kitchen. SPECIAL NEED: 1 or 2 Long Islanders, licensed drivers, willing to come into the city late on Friday afternoon to drive a rented box truck back to Oceanside, Long Island.
